Sol d'oro 2024

The day of March 18th was decisive for the world of oil: the Sol d'Oro 2024 competition took place, which, now in its 22nd edition, awarded the best extra virgin olive oils in eight different categories, each dedicated to a specific class: Light fruity, Medium fruity, Intense fruity, Dop-Igp, Biological, Monovarietal e Absolute Beginners. Furthermore, this year a new category has been added, namely that of Big Producers, which aims to recognize and reward the activity carried out by large manufacturing companies.
Italy was undoubtedly the protagonist of the match: victory earned after a fierce match played against the historic opponent Spain. The international participation was in fact very strong, with 11 countries competing, each with their own EVO oils to present, for a total of 450 samples also coming from France, Portugal, Croatia, Slovenia, Greece, Turkey, Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia .
The awards ceremony includes three medals for each category (Sol d'Oro, Sol d'Argento and Sol di Bronzo): Italian producers from Puglia, Lazio, Sicily, Sardinia, Umbria, Campania, Trentino rose to the top step of the podium and Tuscany. It was one who tasted and classified all the samples presented at Sol D'Oro 2024 jury of experts composed of Italian and international panelists from China, Japan, Tunisia and Slovenia, led by Marino Giorgetti.
The «Sol d'Oro Challenge 2024» award, an award that rewards the best overall performance, went to the Americo Quattrociocchi company, a producer from Terracina (Latina), which also won free participation in the 2025 edition of SOL .
The official awards ceremony will take place on the occasion of the 28th edition of SOL, scheduled by 14 17 to April in conjunction with Vinitaly, and will be held on Sunday 14 April, in the Sala Vivaldi, at the Palaexpo.
And this will not be the only flagship event: a "walking around tasting" of the winners of the Sol d'Oro 2024 is also planned, an unmissable event for operators who have the opportunity to tell the public about their product and story behind it. Furthermore, the extra virgin oils that have won a medal will also be the protagonists of guided tastings and pairings with particular dishes, which highlight extra virgin olive oil as the main ingredient of each composition.
