The winners of the only blind tasting competition dedicated to extra virgin olive oils produced in the southern hemisphere were announced at Expoalimentaria in Lima. Chile took three medals, followed by South Africa and Uruguay with two and Peru and Brazil with one - yet all countries taking part expressed impressive quality, as the Special Mentions also assigned to Argentina and Australia clearly demonstrate. The special "Giulio Bertrand Prize" was awarded to Chilean producer Agricola Monte Olivo.
The sixth edition of Sol d'Oro Southern Hemisphere, the only blind tasting competition dedicated to quality extra virgin olive oils from south of the Equator, this year will take place in Tacna - the leading olive-growing region in Peru. The winners will be announced in Lima during Expoalimentaria, the most important food trade fair in Latin America.
