The 19th edition of the Sol d'Oro Competition certainly flew the Italian flag! Sixteen of the eighteen Medals envisaged in the six competition categories (Organic, Delicate Fruit, Medium Fruit, Intense Fruit, Single Variety, Absolute Beginners) were awarded to Italian extra virgin olive oils. This success story was shared among the main producing regions: four for Tuscany, three for Lazio, two for Sardinia, Campania and Umbria and one each for Puglia, Sicily and Calabria. The only international countries taking awards were Spain with a Sol d'Oro in the Delicate Fruit category and Slovenia with a Sol d'Oro in the Absolute Beginners section. The “Sol d'Oro Challenge 2021”, which rewards the best overall perfomance, went to Masoni Becciu, based Villacidro, Sardinia, for the second consecutive year.

The event, scheduled within the scope of Sol&Agrifood 19-22 April next in conjunction with Vinitaly and Enolitech, was outlined during the technical conference "Beer barley and its supply chain".

The winners of the only blind tasting competition dedicated to extra virgin olive oils produced in the southern hemisphere were announced at Expoalimentaria in Lima. Chile took three medals, followed by South Africa and Uruguay with two and Peru and Brazil with one - yet all countries taking part expressed impressive quality, as the Special Mentions also assigned to Argentina and Australia clearly demonstrate. The special "Giulio Bertrand Prize" was awarded to Chilean producer Agricola Monte Olivo.
The sixth edition of Sol d'Oro Southern Hemisphere, the only blind tasting competition dedicated to quality extra virgin olive oils from south of the Equator, this year will take place in Tacna - the leading olive-growing region in Peru. The winners will be announced in Lima during Expoalimentaria, the most important food trade fair in Latin America.
